"Nono, report!", Balthier said to the communicator, waiting for a reply from the engine room, the place where Nono the Moogle and his team of mechanics hanged around during their travels, the Strahl shaking abruptly as it got shot by one of the Archadian ships that were chasing the leading man's ship, much to his aggravation. "Blasted Archadians... Had to be hovering around the minute we were taking off...", Balthier mumbled slightly underneath his breath as he gripped the controls as hard as he could, shifting a few times sideways as he made the Airship dodge one of the enemy airships attempting to ram against the Strahl. "The left engine can't take much more of this, kupo! And the right one ain't that great either. We can't speed out of this one, kupo!", Nono's voice finally echoed through out the cockpit, mixed with a few static. Balthier maintained his composure, not breaking his cool or looking to nervous, though deep down he feared arrest... Last thing he wanted was to get sent to some dudgeon, or heaven forbid, get executed because after all, he was a pirate and the same punishment would go to his crew and he would rather hand himself to the Archadians then to let them take his crew.
When the ship took another hit, Balthier almost jumped out of his seat as the ship seemed to have been pushed hard to the side, though he did not let go of the handles for a second, gripping it with determination as his eyes gazed at the front, focusing on a way to get out of that situation. The invisibility trick was no longer an option and would prove to be counter productive given that they already knew they were there, so what could he do now that the throttle couldn't go any higher? The Archadian ships had successfully boxed the Strahl between them, making it impossible for Balthier to have it turn in any direction, all that he could to was go straight ahead. Balthier's trust in his abilities to escape was getting lower and lower as he saw the ship getting attacked, though he had a feeling that that day wasn't the day he was going to get what was coming to him for raiding temples and pillaging.
When all hope seemed lost and the Archadian fleet had their weapons locked on the engines, suddenly, Balthier caught a glimpse of something dark and massive, appearing out of nowhere and in front of them, only half a mile or a bit less away from where they were and resembling a round wall of darkness. He did not know what it was, but given that they couldn't move from that trajectory, he guessed that they were going to collide with it. Not wanting that, the enemy fleet broke formation, scattering themselves and leaving the Strahl alone. Balthier tried to escape from ramming against whatever that was, though as he turned the ship to the right, the Strahl seemed to have been pulled by whatever that was, darkness filling the cockpit and engulfing the airship whole, crew and everything. Last thing Balthier did was look at Fran, right before everything went black and a cold feeling engulfed him.
~ ~ ~
Balthier shook his head, his eyes closed as he tried his best to shake an uncomfortable feeling he had inside of him, like a veil that seemed to be enfeebling him. He scratched his eyes lightly, only then to attempt to open them, the cold and very uncomfortable feeling finally leaving him, only to look at dark and lifeless clouds through the cockpit's window. The man didn't even pondered himself where the hell they had landed, turning his head as fast as he could to the side, asking his first mate, "Fran! Are you alright?", his eyes clearly showing how concerned he was. The Strahl had landed straight on the ruins of Zanarkand, a godforsaken place in Spira. The reason why and how they had gotten there was unknown to Balthier and his crew, though where there were ruins, there was treasure!

Take me into your darkest hour x x And i'll never desert you --------------------------------------------.
Of all the things to be on their tail, it had to be the Archadian ships. They had really gotten them angry this time and no thanks to their actions. If this continued the Strahl would be damaged too greatly and they would crash, not to mention be caught as well. The viera kept her eyes on the ships which were getting closer to them, only glancing over to her partner for a brief second as she spoke to Nono through the communicator. Her hearing was quite good and she had heard the mumble her partner gave, things just didn't go well for them today now did it. "Did you just expect them to let us go?" Of course not, after all they were sky pirates and wanted ones at that. Keeping position in the seat beside Balthier as he dodged sideways, the voice of Nono came back over the cockpit. The news was not good, she had the urge to go back there and just help in anyway she could but Balthier needed her up front to keep things balanced. The last thing she wanted was for them to be caught, because all that awaited them was the dungeon or being executed. Unless Larsa or Ashe could give them a pardon, after all they were friends and had been through alot together. Feeling the ship take another hard hit, Fran lurched foreward abit, that attack had sure hit them hard. Regaining her composure in her seat she glanced out the windows to see that the Archadian ships had boxed them in, like rat's with no other place to run. Guess this was it then, their engines were pretty much shot and there was no way to escape through the mass fleet of ships. They had their weapons focused on the engines of the Strahl to take her down, was this truly the end of her and Balthier. To have it end this way, but they've been through worse.....alot worse. It was then she saw something just ahead. A dark mass starting to form, and she knew her partner saw it as well. But she was getting that bad feeling in the pit of her stomach, that whatever this was did not belong here. Were they going to crash into it, the Archadian fleet suddenly scattered and flew off leaving the ship alone to fend for itself. So even they didn't want to stay huh. Wise choice on their part perhaps but now they had to deal with this mass of darkness. Gripping the communicator in her hand she pressed the button to tell Nono and the rest of the crew to hold onto something. Her partner trying to turn the ship to the right wasn't working, for soon the whole cockpit was engulfed in darkness. Now usually she was one to keep her emotions inside, the communicator slipped from her hands and she gave a worried glance over to Balthier before all went dark. A cold feeling creeped over her and all was black. She could then hear a faint voice calling to her as she lay on the floor of the Strahl, it became louder as she came to and opened her eyes. Slowly she pushed herself to sit up, seeming to have escaped any injuries before looking to Balthier. "I'll be fine, what happened?" Glancing to the window on the ship she looked out to see the swirling lifeless clouds of a sky she did not recognize. Looking back over to her partner she slowly stood up and brushed herself off. "Are you okay, do you have any injuries?" Though looking at him she couldn't see any injuries nor did he look as if he was in any pain, heading to the back of the ship she went to check on Nono and the engines. What met her eyes was a look of frustration and anger. This was going to take quite awhile to fix, so she would leave Nono and the crew to it to repair. The viera while glancing out the window of the Strahl had noticed ruins just to the side, and that meant treasure and new plunder. Opening the doors of the Strahl, eager to get out and explore this odd place they had come to. Fran waited till the doors finished opening before she walked down and onto the ground, it felt different here. Not like back where they came from, and there was no hint of mist anywhere either. Looking around the ruins the viera could make out what used to be buildings, and one large one still standing nearby. The other thing which was odd she thought were the strange little light's floating about, what were they. TAG: Balthier WORDS: 783 LYRICS: I'll Stand by You -- Carrie Underwood[/blockquote]

As he looked at Fran's now opened eyes, the dread of something had happened to her faded away, being replaced by a slight bliss as she talked to him, a slight smile find its way to the corner of his mouth, though quickly faded as he replied to her question, "Don't know. After we got sucked in by that thing I couldn't see anything or feel anything but a coldness I had never felt before... Just woke up and here we are. Somewhere...", his eyes now shifting to the outside, the clouds looking as dark and looking like those from a storm. Balthier himself had never seen clouds so dark as those, blocking out the sun and barely letting the light go through them. Balthier was going to help Fran get up, but before he could even extend a hand, the Viera was already up, dusting herself off and asking if he got injured. The man stood up and gave a quick glance at himself. It looked like he was uninjured, not a scratch nor a tare on him or his garments, "I'm fine. Lets go check on Nono and the others...", he said, reaching for his weapon next to his seat. He figured that the mechanics would have their hands quite full repairing the ship after that assault by the Archadians and there's always the question of whatever the dark mass damaged anything or if they crashed something on their way to that place, so why stay in the ship and do nothing? Scouting the area where they landed would prove beneficial to them.
Balthier passed by Fran, probably heading out after checking up on Nono. Most would probably tell her to be careful or not to leave the ship alone, but Balthier would never do something of the kind. Not only because he figured she would take offense, given her personality, but also because he had the utmost trust in her and her abilities, though that did not stop him from worrying a bit about her leaving the ship and step onto unknown soil. Balthier made his way to the engine room, the Moogles already scurrying around as lively as can be, Nono rubbing his forehead as he looked at the left engine in aggravation. "Are you all alright? How'se the crew and the ship?", Balthier inquired as he looked around, knowing that even he, without any mechanical skills, could tell that the engine was almost fried. The moogle turned around and sighed heavily before replying, "We're all ok fortunately, kupo. Can't say the same about these engines though, those Archadians really did a number on the Strahl... And what happened? Last thing I remember was everything turning black and cold kupo...", the look of confusion was clearly present on the moogle's face. Balthier just shrugged slightly, not knowing himself what happened though replying in his usual confident tone, "Don't know... All I know is that we're all unharmed and safe from the Archadian fleet. Me and Fran are going to scout the area, I'll leave the Strahl in your more then capable hands my friend, if you need us just fire up a flare.", Balthier then walked calmly towards the exit, still pondering on what in god's name was that dark thing.
Before stepping out, Balthier looked around, his eyes scanning the ground where Strahl was standing, undamaged from the outside and appearing to have landed perfectly on a platform of rock. When he stepped out of his beloved ship, he cocked his eyebrow as he noticed that they were surrounded by ruins and sea, the possibility of treasure now popping into his mind all of the sudden. His last raid proved to be beneficial to them, without the whole "getting hunted down by a fleet of enemy airships" that is, so it was like a bonus that they ended up there unharmed and ready to search for even more treasure. The leading man walked calmly towards Fran, the feeling that something was different bugging him quite a lot, but he figured it was just because of that blackout. With a slight smile of enthusiasm, Balthier said as he looked around, "I guess lady luck smiled upon us. I don't think we ever been to this place... But ruins mean opportunity. Nono will take a while to repair the Strahl, so might as well make ourselves useful by scouting the area. Who knows, maybe we'll find something of value among the decayed ruins?", though as he was scanning the area with his eyes, he looked out in front and cocked his eyebrow, a slight confused look on his face as he stared at what appeared to be lights floating around. "Now what can that be?", he inquired, looking at Fran before continuing, "Shall we take a look?", he pointed at them, wondering what they were.

Take me into your darkest hour x x And i'll never desert you --------------------------------------------.
Being sucked into a black abyss and waking up in a strange world, was not something on the agenda of things to do today. As she came to hearing the sound of Balthier's voice, the viera glanced over to her partner and told him she was alright. This had not been the worse situation they have been in before, immediate worry washed over her as she glanced her partner over. Hoping he didn't have any serious injuries, from her point of view it seemed as though her partner was okay. "Somewhere, what is this somewhere I wonder". Fran finally stood up and brushed herself off, her eyes peered out of the window of the Strahl looking to the swirling lifeless clouds outside. This place now made her curious to explore it.....outside. Hearing Balthier's answer he was fine, she gave a small nod turning her gaze back to him. And as usual she was already heading to the back to check on Nono and the others and seeing the damage was enough to make the viera upset. Stupid Archadians, from her point of view the damage to the engines alone was extensive and going through that black hole or whatever it was didn't seem to help matters. Hearing her partner ask the moogle if he was alright and the ship, the viera walked over and started to open the door to outside. As she stood waiting for the doors to open, Fran only glanced back once at Nono. "It's good to hear your alright and unharmed, but as Balthier said at least we are safe from the Archadian fleet". At least for now, but if and when they get back to their home that is another story. Seeing the door finally open she slowly walked outside keeping a cautious posture, this was not their world so they would need to be on their guard incase anything went wrong. There was no hint of mist here so at least she would not go beserk, however as she glanced around there were signs that this was once a city. They had landed in a city that had been left in ruins, perhaps a battle or calamity that befell this place. The viera could sense sadness here and it ran deep into the ground and ruins that lay scattered about. There did seem to be one building standing, though that was it. Suddenly what looked like a rainbow colored light, floated pass her eyes. And there seemed to be more floating about as well. Glancing back towards the doorway of the Strahl, Fran put a hand on her hip listening to her partner speak. And he did have a point as well, ruins meant that there was treasure or things left behind that could be salvaged. "We must tread carefully, we are not alone here. Though I have been anxious to go on a new adventure and see wonders of other worlds". And when she said they weren't alone she was meaning the floating lights, for some odd reason they seemed to hold life in them or might be spirits of departed souls. After all she was a viera and her senses and feelings never were wrong. And when her partner asked what they could be, and if they should take a look Fran gave a light nod. As she started to walk more lights seemed to make their presense known to the two, how beautiful they looked dancing among the ruins. "I believe the lights are departed souls, no longer part of the physical world. It almost seems as if they protect these ruins, but hold no hostility towards us". It seemed the lights were more curious about them, wondering why two strangers were walking around the ruins. But what got Fran being curious is to why the spirits of these departed people linger here, are they lost and cannot find their final resting place or do they feel they must continue to protect this place after what may have happened here. Walking towards the one building, the viera did stop from time to time to examine the pieces of metal scattered about. Picking a small piece up she looked it over, now this was interesting.
