Personality: Seen as a cheerful, generous, and talented man, Laguna does everything with a righteous and pure purpose. Though he doesn't like fighting, Laguna is the type of person who will defend his friends to the death. He is clearly courageous when he is defending his friends, but if Laguna gives himself time to think about the situations he gets himself into his attitude changes and a hesitation comes to the surface. Though in the end, Laguna will always choose saving his friends, never letting his nerves get the best of him.
Once in his younger life, Laguna struggled with how he acted towards beautiful women; every time that Laguna used to encounter a lady he would clam up and his leg would spasm and cramp. This shy attitude of Laguna's was only seen with women and he seems to have gotten over it in his older age, but a bit of his shyness remains. Laguna is also very open about emotion and proclaims that it's the heart that matters, not always the logical side of things.
Among his friends, Kiros and Ward, Laguna was often teased for being too impulsive, but in the end it was always Laguna who was leading the team in every situation. Though the two friends would never admit it directly to Laguna, they relied on him for guidance because of what a great leader he really made.
History: Laguna was born in Delling City in January, but Laguna's early childhood is, for the most part, a complete mystery beyond that fact. Only once Laguna joins the Galbadian Army in his twenties does his story really begin to be told. It was his dream to become a traveling journalist that inspired the otherwise peaceful Laguna to join the army. After being assigned to a platoon, Laguna meets the two people who will become his life-long best friends, Kiros Seagill and Ward Zabac. The peculiar three misfits swiftly bonded and soon shared everything with each other.
As time wore on, Laguna found his first love interest. When not away on duties for the Galbadian Army, Laguna and his friends tended to spend time in the lounge under the Galbadian Hotel, and that was where he first met Julia Heartilly. She was a brilliant songstress who spent her nights there at the piano in the lounge, and while she did have a few encounters with Laguna, his nerves made it too awkward to have a full conversation with her. One night, after Laguna was urged into speaking with Julia by his friends, the woman boldly invited Laguna up to her room in the hotel so they could talk. After accepting the invitation, Laguna staggered off with his nervously cramped leg to make him look silly.
That night, after Julia finished playing in the lounge, was a romantic turning point for Laguna. At first it was clear how nervous Laguna really was, but as he and Julia began to really talk, everything changed. The hours passed in what seemed like the blink of an eye and Laguna reluctantly parted with Julia. It became clear that the two held very strong feelings for each other, but those feelings were never allowed to be acted upon due to the sudden reassignment of Laguna in the name of the Galbadian Army.
Laguna and his friends, Kiros and Ward, become lost on their way to their original mission and find themselves somewhere in Centra. The extremely territorial Esthar soldiers soon surround Laguna's party and force them to desperate measures: Jumping off of a cliff to escape into the ocean. Laguna in particular doesn't make a clean-break and finally lands in the water unconscious. In the swirling waves of the ocean, Laguna Kiros and Ward are separated. When Laguna finally comes to, he finds himself in the small town of Winhill where a woman named Raine and her adopted daughter Ellone had been taking care of him. For the following six-months Laguna is forced to remain in bed to recover and it is during that time that he forges a bond with Raine and Ellone.
Upon recovering, Laguna decides to take it upon himself to become Winhill's "Monster Hunter" because all of the men of the town are away to help fight in the war. Another six months pass in peace, but Laguna is caught off gaurd when his old friend Kiros strolls into town looking for him. The two go on a monster patrol of the town and speak of what has happened in the twelve months since they've seen each other. Kiros explains that Ward lost his voice and began to work in a prison, which Laguna doesn't seem to understand. Kiros and Laguna bond over lost time and Kiros notes that Laguna has changed a lot.
As a few more months pass, Laguna realizes that he has fallen in love with Raine, so he decides one day to propose to her and they were married not too long after. Finding peace in his new family, Laguna feels inspired to achieve his life-long dream of becoming a writer for a magazine, so Kiros insists that the two head to Timber in order to get his first article published. During this time however, Sorceress Adel's minions invade Winhill to kidnap Ellone. Arriving home only to learn that Ellone was gone, Laguna made a promise to Raine that he would bring Ellone back, to which Kiros immediately decided it was best to work in numbers. Soon Laguna left his unknowingly pregnant wife to recruit Ward before chasing after Ellone.
On his journey, Laguna found himself in deep need of cash, so he acted in a movie that would later inspire Squall's mortal enemy, Seifer, to become a 'Sorceress' Knight'. Getting to Esthar proved more difficult than anyone could have anticipated and in yet another accident, Laguna Kiros and Ward are separated. Laguna awakens in a place known as the Shumi Village to find that they had been kind enough to care for him. Repaying their kindness, Laguna also met the small creatures known as Moomba in the village and tried to teach the furry little things how to speak.
After a short time Laguna finally reassembles his party and they finally find a way into Esthar, but things quickly grow more complicated as Laguna Kiros and Ward are captured and put to work in the Lunatic Pandora Labratory. Laguna does the work he is assigned obediently for the most part, until he sees a Moomba being abused and initiates a sudden jailbreak out of fury. After recovering his friends, Laguna is suddenly recruited into the Adel Resistance the instant he steps out of the laboratory. With the assistance of his new resistance comrades, Laguna finds that Ellone was being held by Dr. Odine in attempts to protect her from Adel, though his purposes seemed foul upon first meeting him. Finally reunited with Ellone, Laguna is faced with the new problem of defeating the evil sorceress Adel.
With the help of Dr. Odine and the rest of the Adel Resistance, Laguna comes up with a plan to seal Adel so there is no chance she can hurt anyone ever again. After creating a specific cryogenic device, the group projects an image of Ellone where they need Adel to stand in order to seal her, and in her mad desperation to achieve her dark goals, Adel walks right into their trap. After that event the people of Esthar saw how valiant and brilliant Laguna was, so they proclaimed him president to replace the rule that Adel once held. Laguna is forced to send Ellone back to Winhill where she returns to Raine. Ellone stayed with Raine until she died from complications in giving birth to Squall. Edea takes in the poor children and Squall is raised in Edea's Orphanage where he meets all of his friends.
Years later, Laguna's son Squall is forced to face trials much like the ones that Laguna himself went through. Squall arrived in Esthar with a mysteriously ill Rinoa thinking that the technology there would have a chance at curing her, but he soon found himself in an all out sorceress war led by Ultimecia. After Adel is set free, Laguna helps his son come up with a plan to take her down while still somehow defeating Ultimecia, who was based in the far future. After Squall successfully defeated the cruel sorceress, Laguna decided it was time to go back to Winhill to visit Raine's grave. Laguna fondly remembers Raine as he looks down on her grave and is soon joined by his adoptive daughter Ellone. With a pleasant smile, Laguna thought to himself how nice it was to have his family, even if Squall still didn't know who his father was.

It might have been easier to be a dictator, Laguna thought with a deep-set frown. If only someone had warned him sooner that defeating an evil sorceress would lead to so much paperwork he would have just stayed out of it! Or at least he would have tried to only to fail a couple seconds after hearing someone cry. In the end he not only saved Ellone, but a whole country too, so he couldn't really complain. Rather, he could complain, but he couldn't do anything about it. The man let out a soft sigh as he looked over the stack of paper work again. Maybe he needed a break.
It didn't really take more than a few moments of contemplation before the president pushed away from his desk and stretched. A walk about the city couldn't hurt so long as he make himself finish his work sometime before the day was over. Laguna was usually pretty good at that though. "I'm heading out!" He cried to the empty room, assuming that one of his advisors would hear.
Laguna scurried out quickly before anyone had the opportunity to tell him no. There was no containing this childish man, that was something that those around him learned rather fast. It didn't matter that he was the leader of a country or a very strong warrior, Laguna needed his time to be a little boyish. A devious giggle escaped his lips as he planned fun things to do while he was out in the city.
